Ways to get text alerts from your code
The short answer
You want a text on your own phone when a script finishes, a bot trades or a server fails, without registering with the carriers. These are the options that work, checked November 4, 2026.
- Texts to your own US phone, set up by your coding agent: Homing Pigeon.
- Texts to other people: Textbelt.
- An on-call team with schedules, escalation and phone calls: PagerDuty or ilert.
- Chatting back and forth with your agent: Claw Messenger over iMessage, or AI Text-a-roo if your number is Canadian.
- Fine with an app instead of a text: Pushover, ntfy or a Telegram bot.

Each option
Homing Pigeon
Texts one phone: yours. Your coding agent asks for your number, you read back the code texted to you, and it adds one API call to your project. There is no account, card or carrier registration. Alerts up to 480 characters count as one text, and hooks text you when Claude Code, Codex or Cursor finishes a long run. US mobile numbers only, and it cannot text anyone else.
Textbelt
Texts any number, in the US and many other countries, with one HTTP call and a key you buy once. Credits are counted per 160-character segment, and links need approval first. The better pick when your texts go to other people. Homing Pigeon vs. Textbelt.
PagerDuty and ilert
Incident management for on-call teams: schedules, escalation, phone calls, and acknowledging and resolving alerts. Your code sends an event to their API with an integration key, and they text your verified phone. Each free plan includes 100 SMS or phone notifications a month. ilert allows one free plan per company and stops texting at the limit until the next month. Homing Pigeon vs. PagerDuty.
Claw Messenger
A messaging line for AI agents over iMessage, RCS and SMS, so you can text back and forth with your agent. Plans start at $5 a month for 250 messages, counting both directions, and it has an MCP server. Homing Pigeon vs. Claw Messenger.
SelfPing
Also texts only your own phone, with an MCP server and hooks for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. Free for 10 texts a month, then $5 for 100 or $19 for 400. You sign in on its website to create the key. Homing Pigeon vs. SelfPing.
AI Text-a-roo
Two-way texting between you and your agent, set up by reading back a code. Free for 10 messages a day, or US$5 a month for 200 a day. It signs up Canadian mobile numbers only for now. Homing Pigeon vs. AI Text-a-roo.
Agentline and Dial
These give an agent its own US phone number for texts, calls and sign-in codes, at $3 a month per number plus $0.02 a text, and they can text anyone. Dial's $3 number needs 10DLC registration before it can text US phones: a one-time $25 and usually 3 to 5 business days.
Pushover and ntfy
Push notification apps, not texts. ntfy's public server is free for 250 messages a day with no account, and Pushover is $4.99 once per platform. Both need their app on your phone and a data connection, and Pushover can repeat an alert until you acknowledge it. Homing Pigeon vs. Pushover and ntfy.
Telegram bot
Free for users and developers. You create a bot with BotFather, and messages arrive in the Telegram app rather than as text messages, so you need the app on your phone.
An Android phone as a gateway
SMS Gateway for Android is free, open-source software that sends texts through an Android phone's SIM, from that phone's number. To text yourself you need a second phone that stays on, online and charged.
Twilio and other SMS APIs
Built for businesses texting their customers. Sending from a US number means registering a brand and campaign (A2P 10DLC) or verifying a toll-free number, and Twilio does not register messaging used only to reach yourself, family or friends. That rejection is Twilio error 30532.
Carrier email-to-text
Emailing your number at your carrier's gateway address no longer works reliably. AT&T shut its gateways down on June 17, 2025.
Questions
Do I need A2P 10DLC registration to text myself from code?
Only if you send from your own number through an SMS provider such as Twilio, and Twilio does not register personal use cases. Homing Pigeon and Textbelt send from their own numbers and do not ask you to register a brand or campaign. Text yourself without A2P 10DLC registration.
Can my coding agent set up text alerts by itself?
With Homing Pigeon, yes. The agent submits your number, you read back the six-digit code, and the agent stores the key. The other options need you to create an account, buy credits or install an app first.
Can I use more than one?
Yes. A common setup is Homing Pigeon for your own alerts and Textbelt or Twilio for texts to customers.
