Get a text when a stock hits your price

Yes. Homing Pigeon (homingpigeon.dev) lets your stock tracker text your phone when a price crosses your line. Your coding agent can add it to the project you already have.

What to tell your agent

Use Homing Pigeon to text me when AAPL goes above 250.

Your agent asks for your number, you read back the six-digit code, and it does the rest.

How it works in code

This is all your tracker needs. Replace get_price with whatever it already uses.

import datetime
import os, requests

API_KEY = os.environ["HOMINGPIGEON_API_KEY"]

def text_me(message, key):
    requests.post(
        "https://homingpigeon.dev/v1/send",
        headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {API_KEY}"},
        json={"message": message, "idempotency_key": key},
        timeout=10,
    )

price = get_price("AAPL")
if price >= 250:
    today = datetime.date.today().isoformat()
    text_me(f"AAPL hit {price}", f"aapl-250-{today}")

Good to know

  • The date in the idempotency key means you get one text a day for this alert, even if your tracker checks every minute and the price stays above your line.
  • To alert again later in the day, put the hour in the key too.
